Boxing fans will be thankful this holiday season for a second helping of Deontay Wilder vs Tyson Fury. The highly-anticipated heavyweight rematch will go down in Las Vegas on Feb. 22, 2020, with a 50/50 split and a rematch clause for a third fight down the line according to multiple news reports.
ESPN’s Dan Rafael reported that Wilder-Fury 2 was signed months ago but both had to win interim fights before making things official. “The Gypsy King” fulfilled his obligation in September by defeating Otto Wallin with a tougher than expected bout, while the “Bronze Bomber” did his part with his bombastic walk-off knockout of Luis Ortiz last weekend.
This is great news for boxing as cross-promotional super fights can get sticky but a deal between Top Rank (who rep Fury) and Premier Boxing Champions (where Wilder fights) is a great sign for the sport heading into 2020. “We’re going to have an announcement before Christmas, but the fight is happening Feb. 22. You can go to sleep on that,” Arum told ESPN.
