Julio César Chávez is returning to the ring, but it’s not the JCC you think. While Julio César Chávez Jr. (51-3-1, 33 KOs) hasn’t announced his next bout since defeating Colombian journeyman Evert Bravo on Aug. 2019, his 57-year-old father Julio César Chávez Sr. is getting ready to make a comeback… well, sort of.
Now, before you tie your red headband on too tight over-excitement, you should know that unlike Brit legend Nigel Benn, JCC Sr. is putting the gloves back on for a good cause. The living legend will take on another former world champion, Jorge ‘Travieso’ Arce, for a charity exhibition bout on November 22 at the Municipal Auditorium of Tijuana.
The two Mexican countrymen are coming together to raise funds to assist the recovery of boxer Christian Castillo, the son of former world champion José Luis Castillo, who was seriously injured in a sparring session over the summer.
While it’s all for charity, we bet that a lot of people would be willing to watch “El Gran Campeón Mexicano” get back in the ring. Make it happen DAZN!
