Brandon Marshall is the latest football player to hang up his cleats for fighting gloves. The former All-Pro wide receiver made the surprise announcement recently on his Instagram.
In the October 1st post, Marshall interrupts a workout to give us the big news, “I’m about to do the unthinkable. Thirteen years, NFL. Thirty-five, phenomenal shape. Just went 24 rounds. I’m about to do the unthinkable. Heavyweight champion of the world. Lotta people that try fail. I promise you. Joshua, Wilder, Ortiz, Fury. All you boys, I can get it. I’m telling you. You’re not that tough, not that strong. Where I come from, and what I’ve been through in my life, I’m built for this. I promise you that. I’ll see you next May.”
Although the six-time Pro Bowler has no previous boxing experience, the 6’5 230+ pound receiver was known as one of the most physical players on either side of the ball. No boxing match has been announced but we’re guessing some news is coming in “May.” Maybe a fight with longtime rival Darrel Revis?
