Jaime Munguia vs. Kamil Szeremeta

On Saturday, June 19th, Jaime Munguia (36-0, 29 KO’s) will be defending his WBO middleweight intercontinental belt against Kamil Szeremeta (21-1, 5 KO’s) in El Paso, Texas.

Raining from Tijuana, Mexico, Munguia is the quintessential representation of your typical Mexican boxer. His popularity can be attributed to his persistent, come-forth style that is reminiscent of the Mexican greats. There’s never a moment void of action in a Munguia fight, and although he often leaves himself open to counters, he’s proved that he can take a punch and respond with an onslaught of his own.

Szeremeta is a tough fighter who last fought against IBF champ Gennady Golovkin in a fight that delivered Szeremeta’s first professional loss. In that bout, Szeremeta displayed that he has a strong chin, having been knocked down by Golovkin a couple of times and still getting back up to stay in the fight.

It will be interesting to see if Munguia’s strength is enough to stop Szeremeta easily, the way Golovkin was able to, despite Munguia’s disorderly defense and Szeremeta’s strong chin. It will be a fight full of action nonetheless, with ample opportunities for both fighters to capitalize on each other’s weaknesses. If Munguia can successfully get past Szeremeta, an opportunity to fight for a world title against opponents like Gennady Golovkin or Demetrius Andrade, could be next in line for him.
