Media Workout For Gervonta Davis VS. Rolando Romero

Earlier today, Rolando Romero and Gervonta Davis kicked off fight week with their media day workout in New York. The fight will take place at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn and will be televised on Showtime PPV.

Both fighters had a lot to share about the stage of the fight and each other. It’s a rivalry that has been marinating for quite some time now, with Romero taking the role of the villain to heart.

Rolly doesn’t have a hard time inserting himself in the role of the villain at all, having done so previously with Devin Haney and Ryan Garcia. And despite being fairly new to the sport of boxing, he’s already amassed a significant number of both supporters and haters. Which is pretty much the perfect recipe for becoming a star in this sport. The only other elemental part of the equation is talent and skill, of course, both of which Rolly has yet to prove at an elite level. And this fight against Gervonta Davis will be the ultimate test of that.

Here is what Gervonta Davis had to say during the media workout, “It means a lot to be back at Barclays Center. The atmosphere here is incredible. I wouldn’t want to fight anywhere else. I’m grateful to have a great fan base here, and we’re excited.”

“I’m not emotional about what Rolly is saying. At first I was, but he’s shown me that he’s just a hype job. He’s trying to hype himself to get into the fight. It feels like he’s acting fake right now. He’s never been in this position and you can tell. We have to wait  and see what happens. He’s predicting a first round knockout but I’m expecting something else.”

Romero was far from diplomatic in his remarks about Davis saying, “look at the resume of his fights. He’s faced weight drained guys, U.K. fighters, 122 and 126 pounders, and guys past their prime. Mario Barrios was weight drained in a damned bathtub for eight hours straight. I also thought Isaac Cruz beat him up.”

“This feels good, it’s about time Davis gets in the ring with me. I’m built for this moment and this fight. Not everyone is made for this. Davis isn’t built for this. He can’t even say a word. I’m the superstar here.”

Romero certainly doesn’t lack in confidence, but will that be enough to outbox or knockout the talented Tank Davis? One thing is certain, there will be a clearly defined winner this Saturday in New York. Either talent and skill will supersede the villain, or the villain will shock the world and cause a huge upset.
